Race features

The Tri for Real Olympic Distance Triathlon Series is USAT Sanctioned. All athletes will need to hold either an Annual USAT License or purchase a One Day USAT License at the race for $10.

The Tri for Real Olympic Distance Triathlon Series has a fast course with a 1.5K swim in Rancho Seco Lake, a mostly flat 40K bike course, and a 10K run course with gentle rolling hills on dirt roads and trails. Awards are given five-deep in each five-year age group at each race, plus Series Champions will be awarded for each age group comprising custom apparel and free entry to the 2011 Series.

Included with each athletes entry fee is a custom race t-shirt, post race hot meal, athlete goody bag, a chance for raffle prizes and free Kids Play Area, free coffee, free RedBull and free parking included for all athletes.

The road into the park will be closed from 7:30 am until 8 am for the TRI for KIDS bike course closure. Athletes MUST arrive prior to 7:30 am. Spectators arriving after 7:30 am can walk the 2 miles into the park or wait until 8 am when the road opens.

Divisions

For the Tri for Real Triathlon there will be 5-year age groups beginning with 14 and under, 15–19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, etc. and ending with 70+ for male and female individuals. There will be Clydesdale (men over 200 lbs) and Athena (women over 150 lbs) Divisions.

There will be two divisions for the TRI for KIDS: 6 to 10 years old and 11 to 14 years old. Each division will have one-year age groups.

Awards

Jamima at Tri for RealFirst place Overall Male and Female in the Tri for Real Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group for the Tri for Real Triathlon. Relay Team awards will be for the Top Team in each Division of Male, Female and Coed.

First place Overall Male and Female in the Du for Real Duathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards three deep in each ten-year age group for the Du for Real Duathlon. Relay Team awards will be for the Top Team in each Division of Male, Female and Coed.

 

TRI for Real Course Description

Swim
The race will begin with the 1.5 kilometer swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course in Rancho Seco Lake marked by the large RedBull buoys. Water temperature should be approximately 70 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed . The swim exit will be up the beach and on a grassy path to the transition area located in the parking area.

Bike
The 40 kilometer or 24.8 mile bike course will begin after you exit the transition area and then mount your bike. From there you will exit the park and make a right hand turn on Hwy 104, making a U-turn at the turn around point and returning to the park. Please be careful while on the road. Riders must stay to the right at all times! Riders must not draft other riders: You must maintain at least THREE bike length at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the Highway. Passing is allowed in a timely manner when it is safe to do so. After passing return to the right side of the road and continue to ride safely. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Proceed to the turn around on Hwy 104 and return to the park. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY . The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and Clif Electrolyte Beverage, along with Clif Shot Energy gels will be available in the transition area.

Run
The run course begins directly outside the transition area and is a 10-kilometer or 6.2 mile out-and-back course on fire roads and trails within the park. There will be two aid stations with water and Clif Electrolyte Beverage, plus Clif Shot energy gels on the run course. One at mile 1.5, and one at the turn-around point: mile 3.1 on the run course. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.

Transition Area

The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Athletes may choose their transition spot from any of the non-reserved racks - reserved racks will be marked for Tri Clubs. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.


Bodymarking and Race Numbers

Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf.

Bike numbers must be attached and be visible on your bike at all times during the ride. Run numbers must be worn on your front when crossing the finish line.


Rules and Regulations

Swim Course - The wave start times and the age groups in each wave will be posted at Registration and the start area on Saturday morning.

Bike Course - ALL athletes MUST wear a helmet the entire time while riding their bikes. Failure to have your helmet on or buckled at any time on the bike will result in DISQUALIFICATION. This includes while riding your bike in or out of the transition area during warm-up and cool down.

Safety is our and your first concern, be aware of all traffic and cyclists while riding. Upon re-entering the park proceed to the transition area. There will be DISMOUNT line where all cyclists must dismount their bike before entering the transition area. Please re-rack your bicycle in the SAME spot and proceed on to the run.

ALL athletes are required to wear an ANSI approved bicycle helmet during the entire bike course. Athletes will NOT be allowed to proceed on the bike course without a helmet. The helmet must be securely fastened the entire time you are on your bike. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Run Course - Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line.

General rules - Numbers must be placed on your bike and worn on the run. Drafting is not allowed on the bike course. Riding your bike WILL NOT be allowed in the transition area. No glass will be allowed in the transition area.

Use of headphones or other listening devices during ALL portions of the race ARE NOT ALLOWED.


Finish Line
After crossing the finish line please take a cold water or Clif Shot Recovery Drink and cool water and continue walking to allow your body to cool down. You should remain active for 10 to 15 minutes while you are drinking and re-fueling your body. If you need medical attention or are feeling unwell please proceed to the TBF Medical Tent or notify a TBF Volunteer that you need medical attention.

Packet Pick-up

TRI for Real and DU for REAL Packets may be picked up the Friday before each TRI for Real at Fleet Feet Sports at 8128 Madison Avenue in Fair Oaks from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Race packets will be available race morning from 6:30 am to 7:45 am at the race site. The race will start promptly at 8:00 am. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for entrance to the park, parking, transition set-up and warm-up. Your entry fee into the park is included in your Race entry fee.

For athletes registering online using Active.com during race week, your race packet will NOT be available at Fleet Feet Sports if you registered on Thursday or Friday and you will need to pick it up at the race on race morning.

If you have already picked up your race packet on Friday you do not need to check in again at registration on Sunday morning. The transition area will be on a first-come basis and will be secured to athletes only. Please ask your family and friends to remain outside the transition area while you set up your transition, the transition area is for Athletes Only.

Spectator Information
Our TBF Racing Athlete Volunteer Program offers you a chance to get involved with events, have fun and earn a $40 TBF Racing voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events - plus free food. Pick up your RACE For FREE Athlete Voucher at the end of your shift. Complete event schedule

Spectators are welcome at the TRI for REAL and all TBF Racing events. Spectator food and drinks will be available for sale and free coffee is available in the morning. Stop by the TBF booth at the expo and find out how you can learn the sport of Triathlon through TBF Training


TRI Clubs
If you are a member of a Triathlon Club that has 10 or more athletes racing with TBF Racing we can reserve transition racks specifically for your club, have your club set up a tent in the expo/athlete area, and hang your banners at the event. Please contact the Race Director for more information.
Refund and Transfer Policy

TBF Racing has a No Refund policy on all of our events. A Refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus $25 processing fee. Credits will not be given during race week.

Transfers will be allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There will be a $25 transfer fee. Transfers will not be allowed during race week.
